Rairang Small Hydropower Project is located along the Tribhuvan Highway at Thakre VDC of Dhading district. Water from the fountain of Rairang has been tapped at the bottom of the fountain. A small pond having 3459 cu. m. capacity is built to collect water. A 2.2km long and 160mm diameter penstock pipe is installed to divert water from the bottom of the pond into the powerhouse. Single unit 500kW pelton turbine and generator set is installed inside powerhouse. Electricity generated from the powerhouse is fed to 11kV local distribution grid. The project is supplying power since 2004 A.D. As the project is close to highway and located at 36km from the capital city Kathmandu, it is one of the destinations to learn about hydropower project. Also, trekking lovers can enjoy trekking from headworks to powerhouse area.
